SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College field hockey team used a 15-4 shot advantage to win its fourth straight game, handing at 3-0 defeat to Oswego in non-conference action at Frank Bailey Field Tuesday afternoon. Union improves to 6-4 while the Lakers drop to 1-10.
Both teams played a close first half, with Oswego's best chance at scoring coming at 20:18 when freshman Ashley Demeo (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) shot at point-blank range, and then snagged her own rebound only to have her second shot go wide.
Union freshman forward Alison Krwanczyk (Essex Jct., VT/Rice Memorial) scored the eventual game-winner just under two minutes into the second half when she tipped a pass from the top of the arc from Hillary Benoit (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln Sudbury).
Anne Hanson (White River Jct., VT/Hartford) added a goal late in the second half on a penalty corner, sliding the ball past the left of Laker goaltender Kaitlin Daniels (Sag Harbor, NY/Pierson).
Jessica Trotter (St. Louis, MO/John Burroughs) added the third goal for the Dutchwomen with less than four minutes to play when she received a pass up from Kellin Skurek (Massillon, OH/Western Reserve Academy) and sent a low shot through a sprawling Lakers defender.
Daniels made 15 saves for the Lakers, with nine coming in the second half. Liz Stanford (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro) made two saves in the first half, and Elise Wakeland (Arundel, ME/Kennebunk) made one stop in the final 35 minutes.
The Dutchwomen are back in action on Friday, October 6 when they travel to Hamilton for a 4 p.m. Liberty League game.
