Union field hockey wins fourth straight

CLINTON, NY. -- Senior forward Jessica Trotter (St. Louis, MO/John Burroughs) scored a goal and added an assist to help lead Union College to a 2-1 Liberty League win against host Hamilton College at Campus Road Athletic Field on Oct. 6.

Trotter leads the Dutchwomen with 10 goals and 23 points. Keelin Skurek (Massilon, OH/Western Reserve Academy) scored Union's first goal. Elise Wakeland (Arundel, ME/Kennebunk) and Liz Stanford (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional) combined to make six saves. The Dutchwomen (2-2 league, 7-4 overall) have won five straight.

Jess Goldberg scored her team-high fifth goal this year for Hamilton (0-4, 1-7). Courtney DeMaria kept the Continentals in the game by making five of her seven saves in the second half.

Skurek gave Union a 1-0 lead just 4:27 into the first half when she gathered in a Trotter pass and batted the ball past DeMaria. Trotter made the score 2-0 with 15:26 left in the half. Trotter directed the ball towards the left side of the goal only to have a Hamilton defender swing and accidentally knock the ball into the cage.

Goldberg cut the Hamilton deficit in half with 5:30 left before the break. Wakeland saved Goldberg's first shot, but the rebound came back to Goldberg and she knocked the ball out of the air and into the cage.

Union plays Saturday at St. Lawrence at 2 p.m.
