TROY, NY – Junior
Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional) netted the game-winning goal with just under nine minutes remaining in the match to lead Union to a 1-0 victory over Rensselaer in Liberty League women's soccer action. With the victory, the Dutchwomen improve to 6-2-2 overall and are now 3-0-0 in league play. The Red Hawks fall to 3-5-1 on the season with an 0-3-0 mark in the Liberty League.
Cuozzo grabbed the loose ball at midfield and dribbled it up the left side, sending a bullet shot past the reach of Rensselaer goalie Tara Marandino (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) at 81:04 for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The Dutchwomen outshot the Red Hawks, 10-0 in the first half, but neither team was able to get on the board in the first half.
Union freshman
Rachel Schneidman (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley) had the closest scoring chance in the first frame when she sent a shot just under the crossbar from the middle. Marandino made a diving save, batting the ball out of play to keep the game knotted at 0-0.
Freshman goalie
Mia Simone (Rexford, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) did not have to make a save in the win for Union, while her counterpart, Marandino, stopped six shots in the loss.
