SCHENECTADY, NY – Senior captain Cara Hendry had a goal and an assist to lead Boston University to a 4-1 non-conference victory over Union College Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. Union took the lead midway through the first period before the Terriers scored four unanswered goals to hand the Dutchwomen their fist home loss of the season.
Maeve Kehoe (Chelsea, QUE) notched second her goal of the season on the power play at 12:22 of the first period to give the Dutchwomen the lead.
Brenna Malnar (Soughgate, MI) redirected a shot from the point by
Courtney Chais (Plantation, FL), but her shot hit Boston University goaltender Allyse Wilcox in the chest. Kehoe picked up the rebound and sent the puck low past Wilcox's blocker.
The Terriers evened the score just over a minute later on a strikingly similar play. Genevieve Lang slid the puck past Union goaltender Alex Zirbel (Clearwater, FL) on the right side after collecting a rebound from Stephanie Armstrong's deflection of a shot from the left point by Sarah Appleton.
Freshman Melissa Anderson gave Boston University the lead just 15 seconds into the second period off a rebound from Hendry. Anderson found the loose puck amidst a mass of players in front of the crease, sliding it past Zirbel for the game-winner. Anderson had the chance to give the Terriers a two-goal lead at 9:14 of the period, as she was awarded a penalty shot after a Union player was whistled for covering the puck in the crease. Anderson's shot sailed high past Zirbel's left side.
The Terriers tacked on two more goals in the game, the first a shot that slid in low on the blocker side from Hendry with 20 seconds remaining in the middle stanza. Nicki Wiart added her fifth goal of the season midway through the third on a two-player advantage, this time beating Zirbel on the low glove side from the high slot.
Zirbel made 42 saves in the loss, while Wilcox stopped 21 shots for her sixth win of the season.
The two teams face off again Sunday in a 2 p.m. game at Messa Rink.
