SCHENECTADY,NY – The Union College Dutchwomen were unable to hold onto an early 1 – 0 first period lead as The Rensselaer Engineers scored 5 unanswered goals on there way to a 5-1 victory. The Engineers improved to 8-11-0 overall and 4-4-0 in league play. The Dutchwomen dropped to 4-12-0 overall and 0-8-0 in the league.
Elise Nichols (Pittsfield, MA) opened the scoring in the game at the 9:00 mark of the first period.
Kaitlyn Aitcheson (Statford, ONT) slid a pass from the right point down to the low right circle where
Amanda Rucinksi (Rochester, MN) took a shot that deflected off of the Engineers goalie. Nichols streaked in from the left, dove, and poked the puck into the net past a downed Engineer goalie.
Rensselaer would get the equalizer at 14:40 when Jamie Jacquard-Sowa received a pass in the slot from Allysen Weidner. Jacquard-Sowa snipped a wrist shot on Amanda Hanson's (Brainerd, MN) stick side that beat the goaltender. Five minutes later Julie Aho would score the game winning goal for the Engineers. Aho took a pass that went around the back of the net from Allysen Weidner that would again beat the Union netminder on the stick side.
Rensselaer would also receive goals from Melissa Boik, Jamie-Lynn Stewart, and Sarah Daniel.
For Union, Hanson made 35 saves while Rensselaer goalie Ashley Mayr had 14 saves.
Both teams resume there seasons after the holiday season when they return to ECACHL action. Union hosts Yale on January 6 and Brown January 7, with both games at 2 p.m.
