Dan Myerow (Sudbury, MA) scored with 1:41 left in the fourth quarter to cap off Union's (3-6) 9-8 come-from-behind win over Utica (6-4) at Frank Bailey Field. The game was a make-up from the March 1
st contest that was postponed. Myerow also had two assists and had a team-high four ground balls in Union's second straight win. Kory Buckley and Andrew Singer each had two goals for Utica and Kevin Whiting led the team with four ground balls.
The two teams traded the first four goals of the game with
Matthew Douglas (New York, NY) getting the home team on the board first with 4:33 left in the first quarter. Kevin Whiting scored an unassisted goal just over a minute later.
Kyle Tilley (Hamilton, MA) put the Dutchmen back on top with nine seconds left in the opening period on his third goal of the season off a feed from
Kevin Rautenstrauch (West Seneca, NY), after taking advantage of a Pioneers turnover.
Utica started the second quarter with back-to-back goals. Buckley ripped a shot past Union goalie
Rob Oram (New Canaan, CT) just 1:15 in and Tom Collins gave them their first lead of the game less than a minute later.
After
Bill Condon (West Hartford, CT) tied the game back up, Utica reeled off three straight goals and took a 6-3 lead into halftime.
Union responded with three of its own in the third quarter. Jonathan Miller (Yarmouth, ME) scored his ninth goal of the season with 3:07 remaining to make it 6-6. Buckley regained the advantage for the Pioneers, scoring with 40 seconds left in the third.
The Dutchmen scored two goals in the fourth quarter, taking back the lead with 10:05 remaining when
Tom Simmons (Salisbury, CT) took a pass from Condon behind the goal and snuck it past Utica goalie Sean Ryan.
Singer evened things up again with 3:06 to play, setting up Myerow's last minute heroics. He got the ball to the right of the goal and spun toward the center, taking a jump-shot that beat Ryan to the left post.
Oram made 13 saves for Union in the win. On the other end Ryan stopped eight of 17 shots on goal.
Utica held a 37-26 advantage in shots and won 16 of the 21 faceoffs. Ground balls also favored the Pioneers, 26-19.
Union looks to extend its win streak to three games when they travel to Hartwick for another non-league contest on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m.
