Union handles Vassar, 11-4

Schenectady, NYUnion (4-7, 2-1) scored five of the game's first six goals on its way to an 11-4 win over Vassar (1-10, 0-5) in Liberty League men's lacrosse action at Frank Bailey Field. Senior Dan Myerow (Sudbury, MA) had three of those scores for the Dutchmen and added four assists for seven points to lead all players. Michael Littlefield and Eric Schrager each scored two goals for Vassar. Union has now won three of its last four games.
Union jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first quarter as Bill Condon (West Hartford, CT/Conard) and Myerow got things started with the first two. Myerow's third goal of the game gave Union a 4-1 lead with 6:19 to go in the second quarter. Ben Beaty (Cambridge, MA/Buckingham-Browne) followed up with his sixth goal of the season before Schrager brought the Brewers to within three goals heading into the half.
The Dutchmen started the third quarter with the first three goals to pull away. Jonathon Miller (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) got things going this time just 47 seconds in before Bryan Bendjy (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Salisbury) put up his sixth goal of the season to make it 7-2. After assisting on both goals Myerow tacked on his final goal of the game at 4:47.
Schrager scored his second of the game at 5:58 off a feed from Dave Waymouth but Union responded with two more heading into the final quarter.
Littlefield scored Vassar's final goal with 4:10 left in the fourth and Gordon Burdis (Salt Point, NY/Millbrook) closed things out with 35 seconds left to cap things off for Union.
Goalie Rob Oram (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) made 8 saves to pick up the win. He also added four ground balls. On the other end Will Widen made 13 saves for the Brewers.
Union held the advantage in ground balls with a 41-27 count and outshot Vassar 41-22.
The Dutchmen play their final home game of the season when they host Clarkson on Sunday, April 23rd at 2:00 p.m.
