SCHENECTADY, NY -- Union outshot Harwick, 36-14, and six different players scored at least two goals each as the Dutchwomen lacrosse team improved to 7-4 with an 18-3 triumph over Hartwick at Bailey Field Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore attack Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional), the NCAA leader in draw controls with an average of over eight a game, posted 16 draw controls in this game, and Union (7-4) won 17 of 23 for the contest. Cuozzo also had six points, including four assists. Liz Zamore (South Hero, VT/Essex) led the Dutchwomen with four goals and seven shots, with all seven on net. Robyn Ross (Newton, MA/Newton North) scored three goals and Union got two goals each from Erin Lawson (Flourtown, PA/Springside), Keri Messa (Saratoga Springs, NY/Hotchkiss School), and Stephanie Cronan (Marblehead, MA/Marblehead).
Harwick (7-5) goal scorers were Kelsey Campbell (Camillus, NY/West Genesee), Jenev Schilling (Vineyard Haven, MA/Martha's Vineyard Regional) and Jessica DiBrita (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side).
The Hawks scored the first goal of the contest, at 27:41, on Campbell's 40th of the season. But Union took a 3-1 by 24:02 on the 27th of the season by Alexandra Toney (Bayville, NY/Locust Valley), Cronan's 26th and Lawson. After DiBrita pulled the Hawks to within one at 3-2 at 22:28, Union scored the next six goals of the half for a 9-2 lead at the intermission.
Rachel Beckman (Needham, MA/Needham) made four saves in over 42 minutes in the Union nets, while Stephanie Burlton (Coquitlam, BC/Milton Academy) also stopped four Hawks shots in over 17 minutes of play. Amanda Gerich (Johnson City, NY/Maine-Endwell) saved nine for Hartwick in 36 minutes, and Kate Simmons saw nearly 24 minutes of play and made three saves.
Both teams posted 19 ground balls, and Hartwick had 14 turnovers to nine for the Dutchwomen.
Union, which stands 5-2 in the Liberty League and has already clinched a bid in the league's post-season tournament, plays at Hamilton Saturday at 2 p.m.
