SCHENECTADY, NY – Union College junior
Chris Poey (Amherst, MA/ Amherst Regional) tallied his fifth consecutive game-winning goal late in the first half to lead the Dutchmen to their third straight shutout, and fifth-straight win, a 2-0 non-conference win over Worcester State at College Park Field Friday night.
Poey gave the Dutchmen the lead in the 40
th minute when his diving header snuck past the left shoulder of Worcester State goaltender Albert Jenkins (Thomaston, GA/ West Nottingham). Freshman
Ryan Banagan (Albany, NY/ Bethlehem Central) assisted on the play, having served a cross from the far right of the field.
Tripp Pietrak (Amherst, NY/ Canisius High) gave the Dutchmen an insurance goal in the 87th minute when he dodged several defenders and sent in a long ball from 18 yards out.
Union freshman goaltender Harris Fendell (Short Hills, NJ/ St. Benedict's Prep) made one save in the second half for his third shutout on the season. Jenkins made five saves for Worcester State.
The Dutchmen are back in action on Saturday night when they host Salem State for a 7 p.m. game at College Park Field. Worcester State travels to Skidmore for a 7 p.m. contest.
