ROCHESTER, NY -- The University of Rochester, ranked 11th in the current coaches' poll, scored early goals in each half and went on to a 3-1 Liberty League women's soccer victory over Union College at Edwin Fauver Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Union's
Danielle Pomerole (Sudbudy, MA/Lincoln Sudbury Regional) broke up the Yellowjackets' shutout streak when she scored at 87:38, ending Rochester's scoreless run at 467:38.
Rebecca Skudder (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) had the assist. The Dutchwomen are 1-2-1.
Mary Walsh (Honeoye Falls, NY/Pittsford Mendon) scored five minutes into the match, Emily Urbanczyk (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) made it 2-0 midway through the period, and Anne McMahon (Clay, NY/Christian Bros. Academy) scored nine minutes after the restart. Rochester improves to 4-0-1.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Graham (Orchard Park, NY/ Orchard Park) made five saves in the first 80:25 for Union before being replaced by
Melissa McDonald (Lynnvield, MA/Phillips Academy). Molly Leitch (Rocky River, OH/ Rocky River) made one save for Rochester.
Rochester held a 15-10 advantage in shots, while corners were even at 4-4.
Union is back in action on Tuesday, September 19, when the Dutchwomen travel to Clark University for a 6 p.m. non-conference game.
