SCHENECTADY, NY – Two early first-half goals carried the Union College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Clarkson University in Liberty League action at Garis Field Friday afternoon. The Dutchwomen improve to 3-2-1 (1-0-0 Liberty League), while the Golden Knights drop to 5-3-0 (0-1-0 Liberty League).
Union senior captain Stephanie Cronan (Marblehead, MA/ Marblehead) netted her second goal of the season just 1:56 into the game when she carried a pass from sophomore Chelsea Hargis (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) up the right side of the field and sent the ball into the far left corner of the net.
Junior midfielder Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional) added a goal at 17:09 with a high-arcing shot that sailed into the right side of the net from 10 yards out. Freshman Elizabeth Ryan (Ludlow, MA/Cathedral) assisted on the play.
Union College goalkeepers Mia Simone (Rexford, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) and Kaitlin Graham (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) split the game with Simone making two saves in the first 77:06 of the game and Graham stopping one shot in the remaining 12:54. Clarkson junior goaltender Meagan Emlaw (Norfolk, NY/ Norwood-Norfolk) made fives saves in the loss.
The Dutchwomen held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks, and outshot the Golden Knights, 18-3.
Union is back in action on Saturday, September 23 when the Dutchwomen host Saint Lawrence in a 2 p.m. Liberty League contest. Clarkson travels to Skidmore for a 2 p.m. conference game tomorrow.
