Ondash header lifts Dutchwomen over St. Lawrence, 2-1 (2OT)

SCHENECTADY, NY – A goal with just 34 seconds remaining in the second overtime by Union College senior Jenna Ondash (New Canaan, CT/ New Canaan) lifted the Dutchwomen to a 2-1 victory over St. Lawrence University in Liberty League women's soccer action at Garis Field Saturday afternoon. The Dutchwomen improve to 4-2-1 (2-0-0 LL), while the Saints drop to 3-4-1 (0-1-1 LL).

Ondash's header came after Union had several scoring opportunities late in the game. Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/ King Philip Regional) set up the goal with a cross from the far right. Sophomore midfielder Chelsea Hargis (East Lyme, CT/ East Lyme) tipped the ball up to Ondash, whose header sailed over St. Lawrence senior goaltender Carly Draper (Gloucester, ONT/ Colonel By Sec. School).

Union had taken a 1-0 lead early in the first half when Hargis converted a cross from freshman Bianca Germain (Albany, NY/ Guilderland) and sent a low-bouncing shot past the right of Draper.

The Saints answered back three minutes later when Stanzi McGlynn's (Montoursville, PA/ Mountoursville Area) free kick was sent through defenders into the middle of the net by junior Julie Giller (Bellingham, WA/ Bellingham).

Union outshot St. Lawrence 13-1 in the second half, but Draper came up big on several occasions, making nine saves in that half, and 13 overall. The Dutchwomen held a 28-5 shot advantage through the game, with 15 shots on net. Union freshman goaltender Mia Simone (Rexford, NY/ Academy of the Holy Names) made two saves for her third win of the season.

The Dutchwomen are back in action on Saturday, September 30 when they host Stevens Tech in a game slated for noon. St. Lawrence travels to Clarkson on Thursday, September 28 for a 4 p.m. Liberty League matchup.
