HOBOKEN, NJ – Senior forward
Jessica Trotter (St. Louis, Mo.) totaled three goals to lead Union College past the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Ducks to 6-4 overall, while the Dutchwomen improved to 5-4 with the win.
Trotter opened up the scoring for Union off a pass from senior attack
Hillary Benoit (Sudbury, Mass.) from the right side. Trotter took a shot from inside the eight-yard mark to give Union a 1-0 advantage at the 10:49 mark.
Trotter increased the Dutchwomen's lead to 2-0 when she took a pass from freshman midfielder
Keelin Skurek (Massillon, Ohio) at the 15:26 mark. Less than five minutes later, Trotter completed a hat trick to give Union a 3-0 advantage headed into the break.
Sophomore midfielder
Mallory Mason (Southborough, Mass.) opened up the second half with the Dutchwomen's fourth tally of the game. Junior attack
Katie Bellucci (Patterson, N.Y.) picked up the assist on the play.
Union outshot Stevens 12-8 and held a 5-4 advantage in corners in the game.
In goal, sophomore
Stephanie Smith (Hockessin, Del.) registered three saves, while sophomore
Elise Wakeland (Arundel, ME) totaled eight for the Dutchwomen.
Union returns to action on Tuesday, October 3 to host Oswego at 4 p.m. at Bailey Field.
