SCHENECTADY, NY -- Sophomore center
Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY/ Burnt Hills) scored a career high 24 points to lead Union to a 72-68 over Hamilton in a Liberty League women's basketball game Friday night the Viniar Athletic Center.
Maria Tobin (Schenectady, NY/ Bishop Maginn) scored eight points and had three assists off the bench. Ormsby added five rebounds and two blocks with the bulk of that being in the the second half alone to aid Union (7-7, 3-1 Liberty League). Hamilton fell to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Krystal Hammond (Clifton Park, NY/ Shenendehowa) scored 12 points with eight rebounds for Union.
Molly Kane (Sherrill, NY/ Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) was the leading scorer for the Continentals (7-4) with 16 points and three stealst. Sydney Fasulo (Lancaster, PA/ Lancaster Country Day School) scored 15, while Jessica Barrows (Old Saybrook, CT/ Old Saybrook) and Pulma Sathula (Soweto, South Africa/ St. Anne's-Belfield (VA)) both added 14 points for Hamilton. Sathula also had six assists and four steals in the game. The scored was tied up 63-63 with 2:29 left to play in the second half, but the
Dutchwomen took the lead with Devon Cilberto (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) making two on the line and following them up with another layup to bring the score to 67-63 with 1:27 left. Union had a 40-26 rebounding advantage. Ciliberto and Tobin had six boards each. Union had a 36-22 advantage for point in the paint, and outscored the Continental's bench, 17-0.
On Saturday, the Dutchwomen play Liberty League rival William Smith at 2 p.m. at home, while Hamilton is at Skidmore.
