POTSDAM, NY – Clarkson's Britney Selina netted a hat trick and added an assist as Clarkson defeated Union in women's ECAC Hockey League action at Cheel Arena Friday evening. The Golden Knights (14-9-2, 6-6-1) saw nine players register points in the win. Union (4-17-0, 0-13-0) was led by senior
Elise Nichols (Pittsfield, MA), who registered her 12
th goal of the season.
Clarkson took a 2-0 lead on a pair of even-strength goals at polar ends of the opening period. Selina struck just over two minutes into the game, and then Ashley Shaidle scored her first of two on the night at 16:22. Selina added a short-handed score to close out the first period.
Three different Clarkson players netted goals in the first eight minutes of the middle frame before Nichols ended the Dutchwomen's scoreless streak at 192:56. Senior netminder
Mandy Hanson (Brainerd, MN) and rookie
Amanda Rucinski (Rochester, MN) registered assists on the goal. Hanson's was the first of her career.
Shaidle and Selina each added a goal in the final period, with Shaidle's coming short-handed, and Selina's on the power play.
Union sophomore
Danielle Kimble (Reston, VA) made 12 saves in her third start of the season before giving way to Hanson midway through the second period. Hanson made 27 stops in the remaining 35:09 of the game. Clarkson goalie Stephanie Hansen made seven saves in just over 35 minutes for her 11
th win of the season. Kira Hurley stopped three shots in the remaining 24 minutes.
The Dutchwomen travel to No. 6 St. Lawrence for a 4 p.m. ECACHL game on Saturday.
