Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Bouchard lifts Dutchmen to 3-2 overtime win at Yale

NEW HAVEN, CT – Olivier Bouchard (Quebec City, QC) knotted the game midway through the third period and then lifted the Dutchmen to their first league road sweep since the 2004-05 season with a goal 4:26.5 into overtime as the Union College men's hockey team defeated Yale, 3-2, at Ingalls Rink Saturday evening.  Union's last league road sweep came at Princeton and Yale on November 19-20, 2004.

T.J. Fox (Oswego, NY) won the draw in the Yale zone and hit Michael Beynon (Nepean, ON) with a pass. Beynon passed back to Fox, whose shot bounced off of Yale netminder Alec Richards. Bouchard collected the loose puck and skated in low to the right of the net and flipped it past Richards for his third game-winner of the season.

Union goaltender Justin Mrazek (Regina, SK) came up with a big save with three minutes remaining in the extra frame as Sean Backman snatched a turnover and broke into the zone all alone. Mrazek safely stopped Backman's shot, and made two saves in overtime.

Brendan Milnamow (Wilton, CT) put the Dutchmen (13-11-2, 6-8-0 ECACHL) on the board at 16:24 of the opening period, breaking a string of seven games without a point. Jason Walters (Renfrew, ON) took a shot from the right circle and brought his own rebound behind the net. Walters fed the puck to Matt Cook (Belle Mead, NJ), who centered it to Milnamow at the bottom of the left circle. Milnamow fired and Richards made the pad save, but the puck careened back out to Milnamow. The sophomore one-timed the rebound past Richards for his second goal of the season.

The Bulldogs (8-10-3, 5-8-1 ECACHL) evened the score midway through the second stanza as Will Engasser tipped a slapshot from the blueline by Robert Page over Mrazek's glove.

Mrazek made 17 stops in the middle frame, including four while on the penalty kill. Yale centerman Brad Mills had a chance to even the score within the first five minutes of the period with a short-handed breakaway, but his shot hit the far post. The puck dropped and bounced around Union Mrazek's skates before a defenseman picked it up for the clear.

Yale took the lead at 5:35 of the third as Sean Backman fired a one-time from the left circle that ricocheted off of the crossbar above Mrazek's blocker into the net. Mark Arcobello and Bill LeClerc picked up assists on the five-on-three tally.

Bouchard evened the game at 2-2 midway through the final stanza with a power-play score. Lane Caffaro (Slave Lake, AB) connected with Cook, whose shot bounced out to Bouchard, who was digging at the right post.

Mrazek finished the night with 30 saves, while Richards made 38 saves and falls to 9-9-2 on the season.

Union continues its league road trip next weekend at Dartmouth and Harvard. The Dutchmen face off with the Crimson Friday at 7 p.m.
