Saints down men's basketball Dutchmen, 76-49

CANTON, NY -- Josh Sharlow, who finished the game with 12 assists and seven points led St. Lawrence to a 76-49 win over Union College Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen are now 5-2 and tied with the Saints, Vassar and Hamilton in the Liberty League standings. 

The Saints trailed only once in the game, a 15-14 deficit just six and a half minutes into the contest. St. Lawrence then rattled off a 28-14 run to close out the half with a 44-28 advantage.
 
The Saints largest lead of the afternoon came with 6:03 left in the game. Leading 63-43, Sharlow picked off Union guard Nick DiMaggio and took it the length of the court for a bucket to extend the Saints lead to 65-43. St. Lawrence emptied the bench and outscored Union 11-6 in the game's final minutes to secure the victory.
 
Vonnak led the way for the Saints in scoring with 15 points and eight rebounds while senior guard Matt Blue poured in 12 points, all from behind the three point line. Augliano added 11 points and five rebounds. The Saints defense held Union to just 16 percent shooting from three point land.

Joe Mackey (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) led Union with 16 points while Drew Desmarais (St. James, NY/Smithtown) posted 11 points. The Dutchmen were held to 29% shooting for the night and were outrebounded, 49-19 in the contest.

The Dutchmen host Skidmore in Liberty League action Tuesday at 8 p.m.
