Colgate shuts down Dutchwomen

HAMILTON, NY – The Colgate University women's ice hockey team cruised to a 9-0 win over Union College on Saturday to cap off Center Ice Club Weekend with a series sweep. The four points moves Colgate into second place in the ECACHL standings, tied with Harvard and behind first-place Dartmouth. The Raiders are now 13-30-2 overall and 12-3-1 in the league.

Sophomore Elayna Hamashuk earned the win tonight, making eight stops in the first two periods. In the pipes for the third frame was freshman Sara Plunkett, who made two saves in her first collegiate game.

Union also split goaltending time. Mandy Hanson (Brainerd, MN) made 14 saves and allowed five before being replaced by Danielle Kimble (Reston, VA) in the second period.  Kimble allowed four goals and stopped 29 shots.

Colgate got things started quickly as sophomore Elin Brown lit the lamp just 53 seconds into the game.  Brown went on to lead the Raiders in scoring with a four-point night adding three helpers in the contest.

The Raiders would add one more goal in the first, collect four in the second and closed out the third with three goals, as they outshot the Dutchwomen, 52-10.

Fifteen of the 18 skaters had at least one point in the game.  Senior Tara French and freshman Katie Stewart each had three points.  Junior Kara Leene, sophomore Kiira Dosdall, and freshmen Evan Minnick and Jill Cater-Cyker each had two assists.

Union is back in action next weekend with a home ECACHL series with nationally-ranked Harvard and Dartmouth.
