SCHENECTADY, NY – The Yale Bulldogs defeated the Union College Dutchwomen 5-0 Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. Union drops to 4-13-0/0-9-0 while the Bulldogs improved to 8-7-0/4-6-0.
Yale jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. The scoring opened on a breakaway by forward Denise Soesilo who skated in untouched on the right side and fired a wrist shot from the right circle that beat Zirbel on the glove side. The score would remain 1-0 until late in the third period when Yale would tack on two more goals before the period expired.
After two periods of play the score was Yale 4, Union 0. In the period
Amanda Hanson (Brainerd, MN)who had relieved
Alex Zirbel (Clearwater,FL), stopped 20 Bulldog shots on way to stopping 38 in the game.
Yale would tally one more goal in the third period to make the final 5-0 Bulldogs.
Zirbel and Hanson combined for 53 saves in net for Union. Shivon Zilis was able to shutout the Dutchwomen by making 11 saves.
The Dutchwomen continue ECACHL play tomorrow at 2:00 pm as they host the Brown Bears.
