Madej, Mackey lead Dutchmen in league opening win, 67-60

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - Sophomore guard Steve Madej (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) scored a game high 23 points and senior captain Joe Mackey (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) scored 21 points with four assists as Union won the Liberty League opener at Skidmore, 67-60 Tuesday night.

Kyle Grimm (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) had a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Dutchmen, who improved to 4-7 overall. Drew Desmarais (St. James, NY/Smithtown) had a team high five assists.

The Thoroughbreds, now 1-9, were led by Bobby Langford's game best 16 rebounds, and Jon Douglas' 14 points. Union led 27-22 at the half, and only had six turnovers in the game. The Dutchmen bench outscored Skidmore's bench, 18-0.

Union plays at Rensselaer Friday night at 8 p.m.
