NEWTON, MA -- Sophomore Lizzy Moran (Unionville, PA) scored a goal and added two assists as the Union College field hockey team defeated Lasell, 5-0, in non-conference action. The Dutchwomen, winners of six straight games with a 7-2 record (2-1 Liberty League), are off to the best start since the 1993 season.
Freshman Alexandra King (Chester Springs, PA) put Union on the board just over three minutes into the game, assisted by Anne Hanson (White River Jct., VT). Moran gave Union a 2-0 lead in the eighth minute, assisted by Tyler Willey (Stockton, NJ).
Willey then netted a goal in the 25th minute, with Shannon Brady (Bernardston, MA) picking up the helper. Caroline Tulp (Acton, MA) closed out the first half with a goal in the 31st minute, assisted by Moran, to carry the Dutchwomen into halftime with a 4-0 lead.
Mallory Mason (Southborough, MA) added Union's fifth goal just over five minutes into the second half to complete the scoring.
Liz Stanford (Acton, MA) played the first 35 minutes, and Sarah Rios (Queensbury, NY) played the second half with one save. Amanda Miller made eight saves for Lasell.
Union held a 14-3 shot advantage and a 19-4 lead in penalty corners.
The Dutchwomen are back in action on Tuesday, October 2, in a 4 p.m. game at Castleton State.
