Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey edges Castleton State in overtime, 2-1

CASTLETON, VT - Anne Hanson (White River Jct., VT) scored her second goal of the season 6:41 into overtime to propel the Union College Dutchwomen to a 2-1 non-conference victory at Castleton State College. The Dutchwomen win for the seventh consecutive game, and improve to 8-2 overall. The loss, Castleton's second in its last 10 games, drops the Spartans to 8-3 on the season.

After a scoreless first half the Spartans opened the scoring with just under 19 minutes remaining as Kayla Blank broke free for her 10th goal of the season. The ball was played from Castleton's defensive third, and Blank was able to maneuver past the Union defense for the score.

Union would keep the pressure on the Spartans as they controlled much of the final 15 minutes of play. Castleton's Trisha Clark continued to come up huge in goal, turning away 12 shots in the game.

With 3:36 remaining Tyler Willey (Stockton, NJ) put home the equalizer after Clark turned away a shot by Keelin Skurek (Massillon, OH).

Regulation would end with four consecutive Castleton penalty corners and five shots, but Union goalie Liz Stanford (Acton, MA) was up to the task and sent the game to overtime. Stanford ended the game with six saves.

Union is on the road Friday and Saturday for a pair of Liberty League contests at William Smith and Rochester respectively. The Spartans are back in action on Saturday when they play host to NAC foe, Simmons at 1:00 pm.
