SCHENECTADY, NY – Brown University sophomore Nicole Brown scored in the second period to give the Bears the go ahead goal on the way to a 1-0 victory over the Union College Dutchwomen in ECACHL women's hockey game Saturday night. Union falls to 0-1-0 in the ECACHL and 0-7-0 overall while Brown goes to 1-0-0 both overall and in the ECACHL.
Both goalkeepers kept the game tied at zero until midway through the second period when Brown streaked towards the net for the Bears and was able to tip a centering pass from Samantha Stortini over the glove shoulder of Union netminder
Lundy Day (Calgary,AB).
Unions best chance for a goal came in the first minute of the first period when
Brenna Malnar (Soughgate, MI) collected a lose puck in the Brown zone on the right side of the boards. She beat the defender back and broke in on the goalie unopposed but was denied by a nice stick save by Brown goalie Nicole Stock.
Day went on to make 30 saves for the Dutchwomen in net while Stock countered with 12 in the shut-out victory.
Union hosts the Yale Bulldogs tomorrow in ECACHL action at Four o'clock.
