SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College Dutchwomen came from behind twice to tie the Yale Bulldogs, including once in the third period, but a third period goal from Bulldog Bray Ketchum ended the Dutchwomen's efforts in a 3-2 loss. Union drops to 0-8-0 overall and 0-2-0 in ECAC Hockey while Yale improves to 1-0-1 both overall and in ECAC Hockey.
Yale started the scoring at the 14:59 mark of the second period when Helen Resor won a face off in the left circle of Union's zone. She drew back the puck to defensemen Mandi Schwartz who slid a pass to the right face off circle where Sarah Tittman was waiting. Tittman fired a wrist shot that beat
Lundy Day (Calgary, AB) through the five-hole. The Dutchwomen would answer before the end of the second period on senior
Maeve Kehoe's (Chelsea, QC) first goal of the season. Union, who was on the power-play, was able to get the puck back to the left blue line.
Elsa Perushek (Maple Grove, MN) fired a slap shot that was stopped by Yale goalie Jackee Snikeris. A scramble in front of the net ensued with Kehoe finally poking the puck home to tie the game at 1.
Yale would answer in the third period as Helen Resor scored a wrist shot goal that was able to beat Day from the left face off circle. The Dutchwomen were quick to respond however, as less than a minute later
Brenna Malnar (Soughgate, MI) would score from the right face off circle off a nice pass from freshman
Marissa Gentile (Groton, MA) to tie the score at two.
Yale would score the final goal of the game at the 5:10 mark when Ketchum scored the go ahead goal after the face off win from Ann Renee Guillemette. Ketchum took a hard slap shot from the left blue line that beat Day high on the stick side to put the Bulldog's in the lead 3-2.
Day finished with a career-high 54 saves in net for the Dutchwomen while Snikeris stopped 5 Union shots.
The Dutchwomen return to action next week on Saturday at 3:00 pm as they travel to play Boston University in non-league action.
