GENEVA, NY -- Anne Gravely scored the eventual game winner at 54:39 to lift #2 seed Hamilton to a 2-1 victory over #3 Union in the Liberty League women's soccer semifinals Friday at William Smith College. The Continentals, now 14-0-1, advance to Saturday's championship game against the host Herons, who downed Skidmore in overtime, 2-1. Union now stands 15-4.
Gravely, who also scored the game winner against Union in a 1-0 triumph earlier this season, took a crossing pass from Erica Dressler and headed the ball in from five yards out. Dressler had tied the game at 34:02 with an unassisted goal for Hamilton.
Union sophomore midfielder Allison Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA) gave the Dutchwomen the lead just 16:58 into the contest. She had a give and go with freshman forward Katie McLean (Newton, MA) and Cuozzo drew the goalkeeper out from six yards out. It was Cuozzo's ninth goal of the season, and she had a game high seven shots.
The Dutchwomen had a 27-11 shot advantage on the day, including 18-6 in the first half. Union also had the advantage in corners, 11-6.
Caitlin McGilley made 12 saves for Hamilton, while sophomore goalkeeper Melissa McDonald (Lynnfield, MA) stopped three Continental shots.
