Lunday Day stopped 28 Dartmouth first period shots

SCHENECTADY,NY – Nicole Ruta helped the Dartmouth Big Green jump out to a 1-0 first period lead on their way to defeating the Union College Dutchwomen by a final score of 2-0 Friday night in ECAC Hockey. The Big Green improve to 8-2-1 overall and 6-2-0 in ECAC Hockey while the Dutchwomen fall to 1-12-0 overall and 0-5-0 in league play.
The game winning Big Green goal came on the power play at 17:33 of the first period. Sarah Parsons took a shot that Union netminder Lundy Day (Calgary,AB) was able to stop. A scramble ensued in front of the net for the rebound where Ruta was able to poke home the game winner.
Union would hold the Big Green to only one goal until 18:36 of the third period when Larissa Roche was able to beat Day on the stick side for the 2-0 final score.
The Dutchwomen saw their best scoring opportunity during a first period power play. Jackie Koetteritz (Breckenridge,CT) won a fight in the corner for the puck and sent a centering pass to a streaking Brenna Malnar (Soughgate, MI). Malnar was able to get a shot off that Dartmouth goaltender Mariel Lacina just got a blocker on for the save. Day kept the Dutchwomen in the game with 28 first period saves.
Day finished with 52 saves in net for Union while Lacina finished with 9 saves for Dartmouth.
Union continues ECAC Hockey play Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm as they play host to #2 nationally ranked Harvard.
