Big second half leads Dutchwomen to win at Hartwick, 51-47

ONEONTA, NY -- Junior center Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY) scored 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds and junior forward Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY) scored 16 points as Union came back from a large second half deficit for a 51-47 win at Hartwick Tuesday night. The Dutchwomen improved to 5-3 while the Hawks fell to 1-7.

Union trailed 25-12 at halftime, but outscored the hosts by 17 in the second half and shot 52% during that stanza. Ormsby and Rogers combined to make 11 of 14 free throws, five steals and four assists for the Dutchwomen.

Fritzi Flores led Hartwick wwith 17 points and four steals and Katie Caddell had 13 points with six boards for the Hawks. Samantha Galm added six rebounds for Hartwick, which shot 33% for the game.

The game was tied at 10-10 with 12:34 remaining and the Hawks outscored the visitors, 15-2 the rest of the first half. Union trailed by 14 at 38-24 with 11:38 left, but then went on a stunning 19-4 run in the next 5:54. Rogers had seven points during the run and Maria Tobin (Schenectady, NY) had five points with a steal and assist in the run. The game was tied at 46-46 with 3:19 left but Union captain Devon Ciliberto (New Paltz, NY) hit a three pointer and Union had the lead the rest of the contest.

The Dutchwomen are idle until January 5 when they play at SUNY New Paltz at 2 p.m.
