SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College Dutchwomen and Quinnipiac Bobcats skated to a 0-0 overtime tie Saturday afternoon in ECAC Hockey action. The Dutchwomen stand at 1-14-1 overall and 0-7-1 in ECAC play while Quinnipiac's record goes to 1-11-3 overall and 0-8-3 in league play. The tie marked the first league point for the Dutchwomen since the 2003-04 season, snapping a 71 league game losing streak.
Union appeared to jump out to a 1-0 lead at the 11:13 mark of the first period when sophomore
Brenna Malnar (Soughgate,MI) streaked into the Bobcat's zone and fired a wrist shot from the left face off circle. Quinnipiac netminder Jamie Miller made the original save but was unable to stop the rebound shot from sophomore
Lauren Muske (Ramsey,MN). Muske, who streaked in from the center of the blue line, was able to poke the puck past the goalie while being dragged down by a Bobcat defender. However, after the referee's deliberated they ruled that Muske had kicked the puck in, disallowing the goal.
Each goalie made key saves to keep the game deadlocked, including eight saves by Union junior goalie
Lundy Day (Calgary, AB) in the final 2:30 of the third period on a two-player advantage for the Bobcats.
Day made 44 saves in the game for Union, including four in the overtime period. Miller stopped all 18 Dutchwomen shots she faced in net for Quinnipiac.
Union returns to action Friday, December 14, in a home exhibition game against the Toronto Junior Aeros at 3:00 pm.
