SCHENECTADY, NY – Sophomore guard
Joey Lokitis (Norton, MA) scored 19 points with seven rebounds and six players scored in double figures as Union College posted an 84-74 home victory over Southern Vermont College at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen, winners of two straight, evened the season record at 3-3 while the Mountaineers lost for the eighth straight game and fell to 1-8.

Drew Desmarais (St. James, NY) scored 16 points while junior guard
Steve Madej (Burnt Hills, NY) added 13. Two other starters combined for 21 points as
Nick DiMaggio (Croton-on-Hudson, NY) scored 11 and
Delon McAllister (Irvington, NJ) popped in 10. Union got a career high 12 points off the bench from freshman
Ron Knox (Cross River, NY).
Southern Vermont was led by senior forward Nick Harrington (Brooklyn, NY), who scored a game high 33 points on 14 of 18 shooting. Emory Wheeler (Virginia Beach, VA) scored 17 points with six assists and Joe Karnik (Castleton, NY) added 13 points with game highs of eight rebounds and four blocked shots.
The Dutchmen won despite 55% shooting from the Mountaineers, while shooting 49%. Union shot 56% in the second half and had a 31-29 rebounding average. Union also made 72% at the free throw line. Union had a 38-35 advantage at halftime. The Dutchmen led by one at 48-47 with 4:36 gone in the second half, then went on a 6-0 run in the next 1:11. SVC got to within three at 56-53 with 12:26 left, but Union went on an 18-5 run in the next 6:10 to open up a 16 point lead at 74-58, the largest lead of the day. The Union bench outscored SVC’s bench, 15-4 for the game, and scored 21 points off Mountaineer turnovers.
Lokitis has now scored 46 points in his last two games. He also added five assists and six of his rebounds came on the defensive end.
Union has one more game on tap before returning home on January 4. The Dutchmen will play at Eastern Connecticut State University on December 13 at 7 p.m. Southern Vermont is idle until it competes at the Williams Tournament, January 5 and 6.
