SCHENECTADY,NY --The fifth-ranked St. Lawrence Saints defeated The Union College Dutchwomen 8-1 in women's ECAC Hockey League action Friday night at Messa Rink. St. Lawrence senior Chelsea Grills scored two first period goals, including the game-winner, for the Saints on their way to victory. Sophomore Suzy Pocock (Sterling Heights,MI) tallied her 16^th career goal in the contest for the Dutchwomen.

 

St. Lawrence improves to 24-6-3 overall and 16-4-1 in ECACHL play while Union falls to 4-25-0 and 0-21-0 in league play.

 

Union was able to cut St. Lawrence lead in half 2-1 early in the second period. Freshman Brenna Malnar (Southgate,MI) streaked along the right side boards into the Saints end of the rink. She sent a centering pass from the right circle that connected with Pockock in the center of the ice as she crashed the net. Pockock was able to tip the puck over the stick-side shoulder of the goaltender for the tally. St. Lawrence would answer back 4 times in the period as they took a 6-1 lead into the second intermission.

 

Senior Mandy Hanson (Brianerd,MN) and sophomore Danielle Kimble (Reston,VA) combined to make 42 stops in net for the Dutchwomen. St. Lawrence goalie Maxie Weisz preserved the win by stopping 11 Dutchwomen shots.

 

Union hosts Clarkson Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. for the Dutchwomen's final regular-season home game. Union will recognize its seven seniors, the first graduating class to play all four years at the Division I level after the game.
