ONEONTA, NY -- Senior Allie Toney (Bayville, NY/Locust Valley) and freshman Allie Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA/King Philip Regional) scored five goals each and Union jumped out to a 15-2 halftime lead en route to a 22-5 victory at Hartwick in a non-league women's lacrosse game Tuesday afternoon at Wright Stadium.
The Dutchwomen, who improved to 7-3 on the year, have won four straight. They have scored 65 goals during the streak and 56 in the last three games. Union, ranked #17 in the IWLCA poll, last scored 20 goals in a 20-3 triumph at Hartwick on April 14, 2005.
Erin Lawson (Flourtown, PA/Springside) had three goals and an assist and
Liz Zamore (South Hero, VT/Essex) scored twice while dishing out two assists.
Emily Bryson (Charlestown, MA/Gov. Dummer) scored twice and Union got single goals from
Stephanie Cronan (Marblehead, MA/Marblehead), Keri Messa (Saratoga Springs, NY/Hotchkiss School), Abbey Runner (Stanley, NY/Marcus Whitman), Steph Egizi (Westwood, MA/Westwood) and
Jill LaForest (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro).
Union set the tone early in the contest by jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first minute of action. Lawson opened scoring at 29:38 of the first and then Toney followed with a tally at 29:16.
Trailing 6-0, the Hawks got on the board at 23:51 on a goal by Jenev Schilling. After Union upped its lead to 8-1, Kelsey Campbell punched in her first goal of the afternoon at 15:24. The Dutchwomen closed the half with seven unanswered tallies, including a marker by Cronan with four seconds left, to take a 15-2 advantage into the half. It was Cronan's 34th goal of the season.
Campbell opened scoring for the Hawks in the second half at 29:28, but Hartwick wouldn't come much closer the rest of the way. Jamie Boulton and Schilling added back-to-back goals at 19:37 and 18:34 respectively to get the Hawks within 18-5.
Emily Follit made two saves in over 26 minutes of play in the Hartwick nets, while starter Jessica DiBrita stopped two.
Stephanie Burlton (Coquitlam, BC/Milton Academy) made one save in the first half for Union and
Melissa McDonald (Lynnfield, MA/Phillips Academy) stopped nine in the second 30 minutes.
Union had a 30-19 shot advantage, forced 25 turnovers and had 22 ground balls while the hosts had 18 ground balls.
The Dutchwomen, 5-1 in the Liberty League, return to league play Saturday at 1 p.m. to host William Smith. The Herons are also 5-1 in league entering Friday's game at Skidmore. The game vs. William Smith will be live on WRUC-FM 89.7 and on the web at
