Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey posts second win of season, 3-1

WORCESTER, MA --- Three different players tallied goals to help Union defeat host WPI 3-1 in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday evening. The Dutchwomen improve to 2-2 on the season while WPI is now 4-2.

Caroline Tulp (Acton, ME) tallied the lone goal of the first half when she potted an unassisted goal at 28:30. Molly Osborn (Sunderland, MA) added to the advantage at 45:47 before Mallory Mason (Southboro, MA) knocked home a pass from Kelsey Powers (Naples, ME) just over three minutes later.

It was Union's third game in five days and first road game after three straight home games at Bailey Field to open the season, as they opened the year September 8 with a home shutout win over Regis.

Heather Hassett (Oxford, MA) spoiled Union's shutout bid when she notched her fourth goal of the season with five seconds remaining in the contest.

Union goalkeeper Sarah Rios (Queensbury, NY) was credited with three stops while picking up her first decision of the year. WPI netminder Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester, MA) turned away six shots for the Engineers.

Both teams return to the field on Tuesday. WPI will travel to cross-town rival Worcester State in a match scheduled for 7 pm while Union is slated to entertain Vassar at 4 pm.
