Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer downs St. John Fisher, 2-1

SCHENECTADY, NY – Senior Caitlin Cuozzo's (Norfolk, MA) goal in the 84th minute lifted the 12th-ranked Union College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over St. John Fisher in non-conference action at Garis Field Sunday afternoon. The Dutchwomen improve to 6-0 on the season, while the Cardinals fall to 1-2-1.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore Allison Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA) gave the Dutchwomen a one-goal lead just under five minutes into the second frame. Cuozzo connected with a cross from classmate Katie Weinstein (Marblehead, MA), and headed the ball just past the extended right arm of Cardinals' netminder Ashley Martin (Marcellus, NY).

Meagan Gee (Dansville, NY) knotted the game in the 78th minute after dodging several defenders and placing her shot in the upper right corner of the net. The goal snapped Union's scoreless streak of 527:03, just over five and a half games.

Caitlin Cuozzo gave Union the win five minutes later with her second goal of the season. Cuozzo dribbled around defenders at the left corner of the offensive zone, looking to set up a play. When Cuozzo fired a cross, the shot bent into the extreme upper right-hand corner of the net.

The Cardinals had their first chance to get on the board in the 31st minute when junior Kelly Zeppetella (Rochester, NY) sent in a bending shot from just outside the box, but Union goaltender Melissa McDonald (Lynnfield, MA) scooped up the ball.

Union senior Caitlin Cuozzo accepted a pass from Allison Cuozzo in the 36th minute and carried it toward center before firing from 20 yards out, but Martin trapped the ball for one of eight saves in the frame, keeping the Dutchwomen off the board in the half.

Union held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks, and a 22-4 lead in shots, with 13 of those going on net.

Martin made 10 saves for the Cardinals, while McDonald stopped three shots for her sixth win of the season.

Union is back in action on Tuesday, September 18, in a 6 pm game at Clark. St. John Fisher hosts Brockport on Tuesday at 4 pm.
