Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Poey lifts Dutchmen to 1-0 OT win over Hamilton

Schenectady, NY- Senior Chris Poey (Amherst, MA) knocked in a rebound in the 98th minute to give Union a 1-0 win over Hamilton in Liberty League men's soccer action Saturday at College Park Field.  The win extends Union's winning streak to 7-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the Liberty League.  The loss was Hamilton's first of the year, as they fell to 3-1-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the Liberty League.

After a long ninety minutes of back and forth soccer between the two teams, Poey found the back of the net for the game winner.  In the 98th minute fellow senior Tripp Pietrak (Amherst, NY) dribbled around a Hamilton defender and fired a rocket from just outside of the box.  The ball hit off the left post and fell right onto the left foot of Poey, who knocked it past Continentals goalkeeper Anthony Carello (East Syracuse, NY).

Hamilton had a couple of opportunities to get on the board in the first half.  In the 21st minute senior Bryant Michels (Harrington Park, NJ) had a direct kick from just outside of the box.  Michels kick shot directly into the defending wall of the Dutchmen, however, Michels got the deflection and fired a shot just high and up over the crossbar.

Hamilton's second good chance came in the 38th minute as Topher Breedlove's (Clifton Park, NY) corner sailed right into the middle of the offensive zone, but Michels header sailed wide of the net.

The game was played fairly even throughout as both teams fired ten shots apiece and collected four corner kicks each.

Union goalie Rob Kramer (Westport, CT) had five saves for the Dutchmen, as he recorded his 4th shutout of the year.  Carello made four saves for Hamilton.

Union will continue action on September 26th as they will travel to play Elmira.  Hamilton continues play on September 29th, where they will play host to Hobart.
