Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey defeats New Paltz, 4-1, for fifth straight win

NEW PALTZ, NY -- Junior Mallory Mason (Southborough, MA) netted a goal and an assist to lead the Union College field hockey team to a 4-1 victory at New Paltz Tuesday afternoon. The Dutchwomen, who have won five straight games, are off to their best start since the 1996 season. They improve to 6-2 overall and stand at 2-1 in Liberty League play.

Freshman Kelsey Powers (Naples, ME) put Union on the board just under three minutes into the game off an assist from classmate Alexandra King (Chester Springs, PA).

New Paltz evened the score less than a minute later when Jess Moore netted an unassisted tally.

Mason scored the game-winner in the 20th minute, and then connected with Anne Hanson (White River Junction, VT) before the end of the half to give the Dutchwomen a 3-1 lead.

Tyler Willey (Stockton, NJ) took the feed from King in the 46th minute to secure the win.

Liz Stanford (Acton, MA) faced one shot in the first 55 minutes, while Sarah Rios (Queensbury, NY) turned aside a shot in the final 15 minutes. New Paltz netminder Elizabeth Dini stopped 12 shots in the loss.

Union held a 21-2 shot advantage and a 14-3 lead in corner kicks. The Dutchwomen are back in action on Saturday at Lasell.
