SCHENECTADY, NY -- Union sophomores Lizzy Moran (Unionville, PA) and Ashley Simses (Guilford, CT) scored twice, and freshmen Kelsey Powers (Naples, ME) and Andrea Meyers (Middletown, MA) also tallied twice as the Dutchwomen field hockey team opened the 2007 season with a 13-0 triumph over Regis College at Bailey Field Saturday.
Union got single goals from sophomore Molly Osborn (Sunderland, MA) and freshmen Alexandra King (Chester Springs, PA), Tyler Willey (Stockton, NJ) Lauren Volcano (Northborough, MA), and Caroline Tulp (Acton, MA) in the opener. The Dutchwomen outshot the Pride, 31-0, including 19-0 in the first half, as Regis fell to 0-3 on the season.
Powers and Moran each had two goals in the first 15 minutes of play as the Dutchwomen had a 6-0 lead at the end of the first half. Regis goaltender Kristin Tavares (Acushnet, MA) made 11 saves in the nets, while Union goalkeepers Liz Stanford (Acton, MA) and Sarah Rios (Queensbury, NY) each played a half for the Dutchwomen.
Three players had two assists each for Union, Mallory Mason (Southborough, MA), Shannon Brady (Bernardston, MA) and Anne Hanson (White River Junction, VT).
The Dutchwomen host Williams Tuesday night, September 11, at 7 p.m.
