SCHENECTADY, NY – Junior guard Laurel Brown (South Hamilton, MA) hit a jumper through traffic with one second remaining in overtime to lift Skidmore College to a 60-59 women's basketball overtime victory over Union College at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The teams opened Liberty League play with the contest, and Skidmore improved to 7-4 overall while the Dutchwomen fell to 6-5.

Sharlyn Harper (New York, NY) scored a game high 19 points and Kellye Caufield (Monroe, CT) added 13 for Skidmore. Junior forward Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY) led the Dutchwomen with 19 points and 10 rebounds, her third double double of the season. Senior center Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY) added 14 points and seven boards for Union.

Rogers gave Union a 59-58 lead with 22 seconds left in overtime on the first of two free throws. She missed the second and Harper pulled down the rebound. Skidmore called timeout with nine seconds left, and Brown got off her shot through traffic on the left wing to give Skidmore the eventual winning basket.

Union stormed back late in the second half to force the extra session. The Dutchwomen trailed by 12, 53-41 with 4:59 left after a Harper free throw, but went on a 15-3 run to end the half. Ormsby forced the overtime with a three pointer from the left corner with one second remaining to force the overtime. Maria Tobin (Schenectady, NY) hit two three pointers during the run.

Skidmore trailed by three at the half, 28-25. Harper had nine points and two steals and Caufield had six points in the second half. The Thoroughbreds shot 41% for the game and forced 24 Union turnovers. Union shot 43% but 40% from the free throw line, and the Dutchwomen outrebounded the Thoroughbreds, 41-32.

Tobin had nine points, six rebounds and five assists while Lucia Reed (Braintree, MA) recorded six assists for the hosts. Brown finished with eight points and Dana Leonard (Cooperstown, NY) had a team high seven rebounds for Skidmore.
