CANTON, NY -- Tom Wopperer and Bela Vonnak scored 11p oints each and Andy Hoercher added 10 as St. Lawrence recorded a 76-49 Liberty League victory over Union at Burkman Gym Saturday afternoon. The Saints are now 7-6 overall. Union fell to 4-9 overall with a sixth straight loss, and now stands 0-3 in the Liberty League.
Tyler Wright and Josh Sharlow had six rebounds each for the Saints, who shot a blistering 53% on the day in making 29 of 55 shots. The St. Lawrence defense held Union to 28% for the game. St. Lawrence made 14 of 23 shots in the first half (61%) en route to a 37-19 halftime advantage. The hosts had a 43-34 rebounding average.
Union was led by Drew Desmarais (St. James, NY), who led all players with 14 points and 10 rebounds. It was his fourth double double of the season. Five Dutchmen had five points each and senior captain Kyle Grimm (Sherrill, NY) had six rebounds for Union.
The Dutchmen will have six of the next nine games at home at the Viniar Athletic Center. Next Friday, Union hosts Hamilton at 8 p.m. and then hosts Hobart at 2 p.m. Saturday.
