SCHENECTADY, NY -- Julie LaSpina (Roslyn Heights, NY) posted a total of 28 kills to help lead Union to victories over Skidmore and Hartwick in the first day of the Interleague Challenge on the Union campus Friday.
The Dutchwomen defeated both teams in four games to improve to a remarkable 27-1 on the season. Union now has a 13 match victory streak. The Dutchwomen downed Skidmore, 23-25, 26-24, 25-14 and 25-20, then later defeated the Hawks, 25-18, 18-25, 25-23 and 25-22.
In the win over the Thoroughbreds, the third this season, Union got 15 kills and five blocks from LaSpina. Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY), this week's Liberty League Performer of the Week, had 12 blocks, 13 digs and 11 kills. Jennifer Merinder (Andover, MA) added 44 assists and eight digs and Veronica Mynders (Greenville, NY) had 18 digs. Bridget Little (Glenville, NY) posted nine blocks and nine kills and Kaitlyn Evans (Hamburg, NY) finished with 13 digs.
Union got six blocks, nine kills and 10 digs from Eve Richards (Schenectady, NY) against Hartwick. LaSpina had 13 kills and Merinder posted 28 assists with nine digs while Mynders added 26 digs.
