William Smith downs Dutchwomen in soccer, 1-0

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Sophomore forward Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer, NY) scored the lone goal with just under 26 minutes remaining in regulation to lift William Smith to a 1-0 Liberty League women's soccer win at Union College's College Park Friday afternoon. The Herons improved to 9-1-1 and 4-0-0 in the league while the Dutchwomen now stand 8-3-1 and 2-1-0 in the league.

Nasypany scored her 10th goal of the year at 64:10 on a free kick. She led all players with four shots on the day. William Smith goalkeeper Amanda Davis (Sucassunna, NJ) made six saves in the visiting nets, while Union starter Abby Stohler (West Hartford, CT) stopped five. Melissa McDonald (Lynnfield, MA) made a save in late action in the Union goal.

The Herosn had a 14-7 shot advantage while Union had a slight 5-4 corners advantage. The hosts had seven fouls to the Herons' five. The teams were meeting for the first time since the Liberty League playoffs last season, won by William Smith on the home field, 2-1.

Both teams continue Liberty League play Saturday. Union hosts Hamilton at 2 p.m. at College Park. William Smith will play at Skidmore at 2 p.m.
