SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The Union volleyball team had a 16 match winning streak snapped at the Skidmore Invitational Friday. The Dutchwomen lost in four games to St. Lawrence and later lost in three games to Cortland. Sophomore outside hitter Erika VanValkenburg (Baldwinsville, NY) had 30 total assists on the day for the Dutchwomen, now 30-3 on the year.
In the opening match, the Saints, the only team to previously defeat Union back on September 19, won by scores of 18-25, 25-20, 25-14 and 25-17. Cortland, which entered the tourney with a 23-8 record, defeated Union, 25-13, 25-17 and 25-18.
Veronica Mynders (Greenville, NY) had 25 digs and Bridget Graham (Orchard Park, NY) posted 18 digs. The Dutchwomen also got eight kills each from Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY), Julie LaSpina (Roslyn Heights, NY) and Bridget Little (Glenville, NY).
Mynders had 14 digs against Cortland and Becky Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ) recorded five kills.
Union faces Clarkson Saturday at noon and New Paltz at 4 p.m.
