Tilley's two goals highlight 4-1 field hockey win over New Paltz

SCHENECTADY, NY – Sophomore Tyler Willey (Stockton NJ) scored two goals and the Union field hockey team improved to 13-3 with a 4-1 non-league win over SUNY New Paltz at Frank Bailey Field Friday afternoon. The Hawks fell to 3-12. The 13 win total is the most since a school record 17 during the 17-1 team in the 1988 season.

Junior Lizzy Moran (Unionville, PA) and sophomore Kelsey Powers (Naples, ME) scored the other goals for Union and each also had an assist. New Paltz sophomore Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake, NY) scored the lone Hawks' goal.

Union had a 25-5 shots advantage on the day, including 15-1 in the second half. The Dutchwomen also had 11 corners while New Paltz posted five. Hawks starting goaltender Liz Tong (Woodstock, NY) made seven saves in nearly 50 minutes while Grace Watson (Bayville, NY) stopped three.
Just 34 seconds into the contest, Willey scored on an assist from Moran, who passed from the left side of the net in front to the open Willey. The Hawks tied it at 5:32, as Schloss notched her third of the year off a rebound close in front. But the Dutchwomen regained the lead quickly, as Moran scored her sixth of the season at 8:54. Senior Anne Hanson (White River Junction, VT) was in front and dished over to Moran close to the cage. It remained 2-1 at halftime, and the Dutchwomen had a 10-4 shot advantage in the first half.

Powers scored her seventh of the year when she broke in alone and deked a host of Hawks for 15 yards before scoring from five yards out at 37:04. Just over four minutes later, at 41:23, Powers' shot was stopped by Watson but Powers took the rebound and passed to Tilley, who scored her team leading ninth of the year through a crowd for the eventual 4-1 final.

Willey had a game high six shots, all on goal, while Powers had five shots, four reaching the net. The Dutchwomen have won 10, 11, 12 and now 13 games over the past four seasons under Head Coach Lacey French, who is in her sixth season.

Union, which has already secured a berth in the Liberty League Championship at St. Lawrence next weekend, closes out the regular season on Sunday, November 2. The Dutchwomen host Nazareth for another non-league game at 1 p.m.
