Dutchmen Complete Comeback; Win 5-2

Box Score

New Haven, CT – After falling behind 2-0, the Dutchmen ice hockey team responded with five unanswered goals to skate out of Ingalls Rink with a 5-2 victory against Yale on Saturday. Sophomore forward sophomore forward Justin Pallos registered the game-winning goal at the 10:48 of the third to help Union improve to 7-5-1 and 2-4-0 in ECAC Hockey. The Bulldogs drop to 7-3-0 and 3-2-0 in conference play.

Sophomore forwards Adam Presizniuk, Stéphane Boileau, freshman forward Randy Hanagan and senior forward Chris Potts each scored goals.

Pallos' first goal of the season and first career game winning goal came after sophomore forward Andrew Buote made a feed from behind the net, allowing Pallos to cash into the wide open net.

Hanagan registered his first career goal at 15:21 to give Union the insurance marker and Potts had an empty netter with 1:18 remaining for good measures.

Sophomore goaltender Corey Milan made 35 saves for his seventh win of the season and 13th of this career.

Yale set the tone early unloading 11 shots in the first seven minutes, but it only took two shots until sophomore Broc Little put the Bulldogs up 1-0, 1:20 into the game. His goal, the ninth of the season, was setup by junior Chris Cahill and freshman Brian O'Neill.

The pace of the game only quickened as Yale continued to apply pressure deep in Union's end, but Milan kept the home team at bay with a combination of positioning and acrobatics. Milan finished the first period with 18 saves, the most in one period this season.

Just over the middle way mark of the first at 13:29, Little added to his goal total with a breakaway marker setup by sophomore Denny Kearney, who set an outlet pass from deep in his defensive zone.

Union almost found the back of the net during a three-on-one rush during a power play halfway through the second period. Sophomore forward Boileau carried the puck into Yale's zone and dished down low to Presizniuk, who was denied by the blocker of Yale netminder Billy Blase.

The junior goalie got some help from the crossbar twice near the end of the second. Sophomore defenseman Brock Matheson found the crossbar from the left point and junior forward Jon Lareau hit the post from the right hash.

Blase's was as fortunate at the 18:11 mark of the second as Milnamow fired a shot just wide and the rebound caromed back out to the stick of Presizniuk, who stuffed it home from the doorstep. Boileau was credited with the second assist.

The Dutchmen finished with 32 shots and a 1-for-8 on the power play, while the Bulldogs totaled 37 shots and went 0-for-3 with the man-advantage.

The Dutchmen play their third game in five days as they welcome American International to Messa Rink on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
