Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Dutchmen upset #6 Ithaca, 10-9 in OT

ITHACA, N.Y.Chris Collison (Trumbull, Conn.) scored four goals, including the game-winner to lead Union College to a 10-9 overtime upset win in over sixth-ranked Ithaca College Wednesday afternoon. With a 7-2 record on the season, the Dutchmen have recorded the most wins since the 2001 season (8-6) and will return to Liberty League action Saturday night against Skidmore at Frank Bailey Field.

The Dutchmen controlled overtime right from the opening faceoff, won by Kevin Rautenstrauch (West Seneca, N.Y.) – one of 11 wins of 15 draws on the day for the junior. The Dutchmen got a few shots off, but after calling a timeout to regroup for a man-up opportunity, Brendan Kinnane (Little Compton, R.I.) found Collison wide open in front. Collison took an overhand down shot that deceived Ithaca goaltender Ben Connery and bounced into the upper right corner for the game-winner at 2:14.

Union trailed by as many as three goals early in the second quarter, but rattled off three tallied in less than six minutes courtesy of Tom Simmons (Salisbury, Conn.) and Collison to knot the game at 5-5. Ithaca's Craig Le Piane gave the Bombers the go-ahead goal with 39 seconds left in the half for a 6-5 lead at the break.

The Dutchmen scored three straight to open the second half, first on an unassisted tally by Jon Miller (Yarmouth, Maine). After Collison's third goal of the game in the third quarter, Kyle Tilley (Hamilton, Mass.) opened the fourth quarter with his eighth goal of the season to give Union an 8-6 lead.

Ithaca tied the game with a pair of goals by Bush, first a man-up tally with 12:07 left and then an even-strength marker under six minutes later.

Miller edged Union ahead with 2:14 left to play, but Nic Heckman forced overtime with 1:11 remaining in regulation.

Christopher Keinath (Wilbraham, Mass.) made 11 saves in net for his sixth win of the season.
