VanValkenburg, Ormsby star as Union is 1st at Oneonta Invitational

ONEONTA, NY -- Sophomore outside hitter Erika VanValkenburg (Baldwinsville, NY) and senior middle hitter Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY) were named to the All-Tournament Team as Union College fiinished first at the Oneonta Invitational with wins over St. Lawrence and Clarkson Saturday.

In the opener, the Dutchwomen won by scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-21, and Union also posted a sweep over Clarkson, 25-17, 25-17 and 25-17. Against the Saints, Eve Richards (Schenectady, NY) had 11 kills and Ormsby had 10 kills, 17 digs and five blocks.

Against Clarkson, Julie La Spina (Roslyn Heights, NY) had a team high seven kills and Richards posted six kills. Jennifer Merinder (Andover, MA) had 24 assists and VanValkenburg led Union with 16 digs. Erin Schumaker (Saratoga Springs, NY) added seven total blocks.

Union, 4-0, is back in action at the Ithaca Invitational next weekend.
