SCHENECTADY, NY – Senior goalkeeper
Rob Kramer (Westport, CT) highlighted Union's play with nine saves, but the Dutchmen soccer team suffered a 1-0 overtime defeat against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Saturday at College Park Field. The contest was the second league game for both school as Union goes to 5-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference, while RPI improves to 7-1-0 and 2-0-0.
Engineer junior midfielder Lincoln Field (Contoocook, NH) notched the game-winner at 96:47 for his third goal of the season. The play began with a corner kick sophomore midfielder Ben Poser (Scotts Valley, CA), who found junior defender Kevin Swift (Clifton Park, NY). Swift's header was stopped by a leaping Kramer, but the rebound ended up with Field, who went low into the bottom right third from four yards out.
Both teams had chances throughout, but RPI outshot Union, 12-6, and held the advantage in corners, 5-3.
Kramer sent the game into overtime by making a sprawling save on RPI junior forward Jabel Prom (Sandy Spring, MD) during the 89th minute. Kramer was down on the ground, but got his hands up to block the try from Prom.
The Dutchmen return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. against Babson.
