TROY, NY – The Dutchwomen soccer team produced its third consecutive shutout in route to a 1-0 victory at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Saturday. Sophomore forward
Katie McLean's (Newton, MA) late first half goal was the difference maker as Union improves to 7-1-1 and 2-0-0 in the Liberty League and RPI goes to 5-4-0 and 0-2-0.
Sophomore keeper
Abby Stohler (West Hartford, CT) posted her fourth shutout of the season, making five saves. The Dutchmen have not allowed a goal in 324:26, their longest streak since starting the 2007 season with five straight blanks.
McLean, who was already dubbed Liberty League Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season, broke the scoreless drought at 25:53 on a setup by sophomore midfielder
Caitlin O'Donnell (Hampden, Mass.). The goal is McLean's third of the season and she now ranks second on the team in goals, assists (3) and points (9).
Junior midfielders
Allison Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA) and
Katie Weinstein (Marblehead, MA) and freshman forward
Jessica Strang (Rotterdam, NY) joined McLean and O'Donnell with shots on goal. The Dutchwomen pampered RPI goalkeeper Meghan White with 10 shots on goal, four in the first and six in the second.
Union, which had two corners to RPI's three, travel to Utica for a 4 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
