SCHENECTADY, NY -- Sophomore midfielder/forward Tyler Willey (Stockton, NJ) scored both goals, including the eventual game winner with 9:33 left in regulation, to provide Union a 2-1 field hockey triumph over Castleton at Frank Bailey Field Tuesday night. The Dutchwomen improved to 6-2 on the year while the Spartans fell to 7-4.
Union dominated the contest statistically, with 32-5 shot advantage, including 22-1 in the second half. The Dutchwomen also had 19 corners to Castleton's two. Yet the contest was tied until Willey scored at 60:27. She took a pass from the right side of the Castleton net from Anne Hanson (White River Junction, VT) and shot past Spartan goaltender Tricia Watson (Patterson, NY) for her first goal of the season.
Willey opened the scoring just 5:55 into the game. She picked up her own rebound directly in front after a Watson save and scored. Castleton tied it at 22:11 when Kayla Blank (Whitesboro, NY) scored her team leading 11th of the year. Blank tipped in a shot that was taken by Carolyn Griggs (Lincoln, VT) from 10 yards out to tie the contest.
Watson made 24 saves, including 15 in the second half, for the visitors. Senior goaltender Liz Stanford (Acton, MA) made two stops.
Union is idle until October 10, when the Dutchwomen host William Smith at Bailey Field at 4 p.m.
