Dutchwomen open Liberty League play with 77-57 win at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- Michelle Rogers recorded her third double double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Union women's basketball team defeated Skidmore, 77-57 in the Liberty League opener for both teams Tuesday night at the Sports & Recreation Center. The Dutchwomen improved to 7-3 overall and snapped a three game losing streak while the Thoroughbreds fell to 3-9 on the season. Selin Whitham dished out a career best 13 assists in the victory.

Rogers, the NCAA Division III field goal percentage leader at 69%, made nine of 12 shots from the floor and had three steals. Whitham, Union's all-time career assists leader, eclipsed her previous career high assist mark of 10 and had a season best five steals along with 13 points.

Maria Tobin scored 17 points and Talitha Linden Darrow added 10 points for the Dutchwomen, who led by just two at halftime, 29-27. The Dutchwomen shot 62% in the second half, making 18 of 29 shots, in outscoring the Thoroughbreds, 48-30 in the second 20 minutes.

Sharlyn Harper led Skidmore with 17 points and 12 rebounds with five assists and Megan Gaugler scored 13 points. The hosts outrebounded the Dutchwomen, 40-31, but shot 37% for the game while the guests shot 53% for the night.

Union will be home Friday for the first time since December 6. The Dutchwomen host Clarkson Friday night at 6 p.m.
