Day Makes 47 Saves At Cornell

ITHACA, NY –
Senior goaltender Lundy Day moved to within nine saves of the Union College women's hockey program record for career saves when she turned away 47 in the Dutchwomen's 3-0 setback on Friday at Cornell. Day now has 1,887 saves since joining the team as a junior and will likely set the record at Colgate on Saturday.
 
The loss moves Union to 2-18-3 overall and 0-10-1 in ECAC Hockey action. Cornell improves to 8-8-2 and 4-5-2.
 
Day, who will soon pass Amanda Hanson on the all-time saves list, turned away 13 shots in the first, 18 in the second and 16 in the third.
 
At the other end Jenny Niesluchowski made 19 saves, including six in the first, six in the second and seven in the third.
 
The Big Red got two goals and an assist from Jue Melanie, while Rebecca Johnston registered the other marker.
 
The game remained scoreless until Melanie scored at 10:36 of the second. Goals at 13:09 and 14:10 of the third produced the final result.
 
The Dutchwomen travel to Colgate on Saturday, Jan. 17 for a 4 p.m. contest.
